Movie Quotes

At work, one of my coworkers started writing movie quotes on a white board in the back for people to guess. So for the past few weeks we have been putting up quotes and guessing what movie they are from. Then I remembered I had done a post on my blog a few months ago about movie quotes but I never posted what movies the quotes were from. So here are the "answers."
  1. "Well hellooooo big dollop." - Jack Black in The Holiday
  2. "Peanut butter man are we sir?" - the butler in Meet Joe Black
  3. "Watch out for the yellow ones. They don't stop." - Will Ferrel in Elf
  4. "I don't think anybody has called me a butthead since the 9th grade." -"Maybe not to your face." - Luke Wilson and Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde
  5. "A girl asks you to dance, you dance." -Bert in The Wedding Planner
  6. "Sorry little darlin', hope I didn't dent your do." - Zac Efron in Hairspray
  7. "There's glass between us!" -Naomi Watts in I Heart Huckabees
  8. "Two for you Glenn Coco. Way to go Glenn Coco." -Damien in Mean Girls
So there you go. The movies and the quotes.

Childhood Favorites

This post is inspired by a conversation that I had with my dad today concerning my favorite book as a child. This got me thinking about all of my favorite books as a child.
Over the past few years a few of my favorite children's books have been changed into movies. Starting with...
I loved this book when I was little. The pictures were amazing and the story was great. I was excited when I first found out about the movie. However, the movie kind of creeped me out. There animated characters seemed too real and the hobo on the train was kind of scary.
The graphics were impressive but it was weird. I also didn't like how much they added to make it a movie.
The next was...
Again, great book. One of my favorites. Again, I was excited for the movie but after the previews came out I got a little nervous. Probably one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen.
The boy and the wild things had some serious issues. Max doesn't even end up "where the wild things are" in the same way. I also felt like I was missing something the entire time.
The final book to movie...
The town of Chew and Swallow. I actually liked this movie. I thought it was cute. But it is still so different. I mean the book didn't have a clumsy inventor who made water into food. In the book the weather just is food. Also amazing to me, the color difference. Compare the book cover to the movie...
Ok now to the real point of this post. My all time favorite children's book. It will likely never be made into a movie but it was my favorite growing up and I will read it to my kids and to their kids.
For those of you who don't know this story it is about Ferdinand the bull. He loves to sit under a tree and smell the wildflowers. Through a series of events this peaceful bull finds himself the "star" of a bullfight. I don't know why I loved this book so much. The pictures have little to no color and I feel like color pictures is a big draw to little kids. I guess the story just got me.
My dad called me this evening said he thought of me because my mom had just purchased this book for a little boy. My dad read the book and had a little laugh remembering how much I loved it. Apparently it was in the movie Blind Side which makes me happy. If you have not read this book READ IT! It will take five minutes and it will make you happy. I need to find a copy to have for my kids. I'm almost positive my childhood copy is still on the bookshelf in my room at home.

Movie Quotes

I love movies and movie quotes. I was recently watching one of my favorite movies and it has a random quote in it that I love. I'll say it randomly and ask people what it is from and no one ever knows. So I'm going to put it up here and see who can tell me. I'm putting up a few others too. They are random quotes from movies, most are chick flicks and a few comedies. Good Luck!
  1. "Well hellooooo big dollop."
  2. "Peanut butter man are we sir?"
  3. "Watch out for the yellow ones. They don't stop."
  4. "I don't think anybody has called me a butthead since the 9th grade." -"Maybe not to your face."
  5. "A girl asks you to dance, you dance."
  6. "Sorry little darlin', hope I didn't dent your do."
  7. "There's glass between us!"
  8. "Two for you Glenn Coco. Way to go Glenn Coco."
Well there you go have fun! The first one is the one that inspired this post by the way.

I'm thankful for...

The chance I had to come home for Thanksgiving. For all this wonderful food my parents prepared.
I'm thankful for our family tradition of going to see movies for Thanksgiving so that we could go see this...
(as a side, I am thankful Taylor Lautner is attractive shirtless so it could remove the image of Robert Pattinson shirtless from my mind.) I am thankful for Will Ferrel's comic genius that brought me this movie...
I am thankful that I finally grew out of my aversion to Christmas music and that I am looking forward to listening to it tomorrow. I am thankful for whipped cream that makes pumpkin pie delicious. I am thankful that I will be able to go with my family to get our Christmas tree tomorrow. Most importantly I am thankful that I have all of these people in my life.
I'm thankful for the holiday season and the chance it gives me to be with my family and friends. I am thankful for so much more but this is a good list for now.

Love is...

"Love is passion, obsession, someone you can't live without. If you don't start with that, what are you going to end up with? Fall head over heels. I say find someone you can love like crazy and who'll love you the same way back. And how do you find him? Forget your head and listen to your heart. I'm not hearing any heart. Run the risk, if you get hurt, you'll come back. Because, the truth is there is no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love - well, you haven't lived a life at all. You have to try. Because if you haven't tried, you haven't lived... You never know, lightning could strike."
This quote is from the movie Meet Joe Black.
It is one of my all time favorite movies. I think the reason I love it so much is because of what it says about love. The quote I put in is a father talking to his daughter and telling her the type of love he wants her to find. In another scene he talks about the first time he saw his wife, he remembered exactly what she was wearing and everything. It is not often these days that movies talk about love the way this one does. That you have to be open to love and not be afraid to get hurt.Another quote talks about how with love you know the worst thing about the other person and it doesn't matter. If you haven't seen it you should and if you have you should watch it again. It really is great and I highly recommend it. Remember..."You never know, lightning could strike."

Marley and Me

Ok, I have to do a quick post about this book/movie. I read the book over the summer, I think it was this summer and I liked it a lot.
There were some parts that were a little slow but overall I really enjoyed it. Now I am not normally a crier in books and movies, I'll tear up slightly and feel like crying but I never do, A Walk to Remember made me cry for the first time last year and I only teared up in P.S. I Love You. But for some reason this book really got to me. At the end I was bawling and had tears pouring down my face and I was crying out loud. I don't know what it is but something about animals always gets me. When they announced that the movie was coming out and Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston were playing the leads I was a little worried. I love both of them but they belong in comedies and I didn't know that I would like them in the movie. Well I was wrong, I think that this is one of my favorite roles of Jennifer Aniston, and I LOVE Friends so that is saying something. I thought she did amazing she got all the emotions rights and just played it well, as did Owen Wilson. I saw it on Friday night with Jonny and I have NEVER cried like that in a movie, it took everything I had not to cry out loud I had tears down my face for probably a good half hour. It was amazing. Jonny cried a bit as did the guy next to me and the girl next to him and really most of the people in the theater. Saturday we went to dinner for Karleigh's b-day since it is on a Sunday and then Jonny and I wanted to take her to a movie, we were going to see Valkyrie we went 2 hours early to get tickets and it was sold out so we went to see Marley and Me again because Kars wanted to see it and I really didn't mind seeing it again, it was good. You'd think I would be ok the second time, apparently not, I didn't cry as long and didn't feel the urge to cry out loud but I still cried more than in any other movie. Katie (my roommate) came too and was crying along with me. Well the point is it is a really good movie and book, but if you cry a lot in movies then you might want to watch this one from the comfort of your own home because you will likely be bawling by the end. Also, here are a few reasons I think I'm so touched by animals, my babies! Sorry this was a bit longer than I was planning!
Also, a post to come sometime soon, the Polar Swim, as soon as I get the pictures from my roommate, but here is a teaser diving into an unheated pool in Utah in February (I'll get it up soon so you can see the pictures Taryn!)

Obviously

On Friday night some of the roommates went to Hailey's house in Mapleton to spend the night. I know it seems weird since we all live together but it is still fun to get out of the apartment and have a sleepover like you did when you were younger. We had fun playing with the Wii, (which made us all very sore the next day, tennis and boxing are killer) eating food, talking and watching, the love story of our generation, Titanic. I feel asleep during parts of it but I still love that movie. I t has been forever since I have seen it all the way through, I always start at the part where Jack stops Rose for jumping off the edge of the ship and then stop watching when the boat goes under, so I miss the last like 30 mins. I totally forgot how sad it was! It is amazing but so sad.

Hailey's family also has TONS of edited DVDs so Ashley and I went through and made a list of all the ones we wanted to see but couldn't because they were rated R. So last night Jonny, Ashley and I watched I Heart Huckabees. I didn't know much about it other than remembering it looked really weird! But it was AMAZING! It was so funny I could not stop laughing, Mark Wahlberg is hilarious! I think his role in this movie is my favorite of all his roles, it is different from what he normally does but he was great. It is really weird and most of the time you just sit there wondering what in the world is going on but it is awesome! It's all about existentialism and what is reality what isn't and are we all connected, so of course it doesn't make sense but I was very entertained! Now it is back to homework and all that.

Side note...Taryn is coming on Wednesday and I can't wait! Hopefully the gross slushy rain/snow we have going right now will clear up and the weather will be good!

Almost there...

This last week has been extremely crazy, I'm so happy that it is over. I spent last weekend in Logan for Jonny's grandma's funeral, so time was spent with his family and not much work got done. I was also recovering from a stomach flu I had had since Wednesday. So here is a run done of what I had to do last week: I had to take an accounting test by Tuesday, write a book review on a book that was 350 pages (I was only on page 50), meet with a counselor to make sure I could graduate, apply for graduation, do a research presentation, help Karleigh register for classes, do research for a presentation I have to give on Monday and then do all of my normal class readings and home work. Some how I made it through all of this work and I actually got to relax some this weekend. I still had to do some work but I had the weight of having to do SO much gone, it was nice. I saw Quantum of Solace on Saturday night, it was excellent, I think I still like Casino Royale more but I don't know, this new one was confusing, I'll have to see it again. My "almost there" title refers to a few things first the BYU/Utah football game, I can't wait and I totally have faith in my cougars they can do it again (remember 2 years ago or last year?)! second going home! I can't wait I haven't been home for Thanksgiving since my freshman year which means I can go get our Christmas tree! and of course just Thanksgiving in general, I love it but it always gets looked over because people want to celebrate Christmas right after Halloween! Third I'm almost done with college...I have one semester left after this one then a summer internship and I will have my college diploma! I can't believe it, part of me will miss it but mostly I'm ready to be done. Time really goes by so fast.
